Jacob David Sudol uses new technologies to create intimate compositions that explore enigmatic phenomena, the inner nature of how we perceive sound, as well as novel connections between Eastern and Western musical cultures.
Dr. Sudol’s music has been performed well over 200 times across North America, Asia, and Europe by many prestigious ensembles and performers such as the New York New Music Ensemble, Ensemble Dal Niente, Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, String Noise Duo, Insomnia Ensemble, Taipei C Camerata Ensemble, Little Giant Chinese Chamber Orchestra, Mari Kimura, Xenia Pestova, Keith Kirchoff, and Ku Chun-Hao. His music is also regularly selected for some of the most prestigious international computer music events such as the International Computer Music Conference, the annual Society of Electro-Acoustic Music in the U.S. conference, and the annual MA/IN festival.
In addition, a chapter Dr. Sudol wrote on his music was recently published in the Oxford University Press Handbook of Spectral Music.
In 2010, Dr. Sudol and Chen-Hui Jen founded the Misty Shore Duo – a piano/electro-acoustic duo who have performed dozens of full concerts in the United States and Taiwan. During the COVID-19 lockdown, the duo also notably performed a series of eight live streamed concerts as well as recorded and released seven albums.
As a recording engineer and producer, Dr. Sudol has worked on albums released on Mode, Albany, Bridge, MSR, Metier, Centaur, and Neuma Records.
Jacob David Sudol is currently a Professor of Computer Music at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University. He was previously an Associate Professor of Music Technology and Composition at Florida International University and Coordinator of the Music Technology Area, where he worked for sixteen years and was awarded a Faculty Award for Research and Creative Activities in 2016. Dr. Sudol was also previously awarded a 2015-16 Fulbright Fellowship to research and teach in Taiwan.
