Narrative

Juin-Ying Lee, the violinist, begins to learn violin since age eight. Later on with suggestions from instruction Kao-Shan Ding, he enrolls himself into the music class of Fu Sing Elementary School. And after Wan Hwa Elementary Junior High School, he has been accepted in the music class of the affiliated senior high school of National Normal University, and learns under instructor Ding. During his school days, he is honored with the first prize of violin solo for youth section at the Music Competition of Taiwan, and he is accepted by the National Institute of Arts after high school (the institute is upgraded as Taipei National University of Arts afterwards). During college time, he receives the first prize of the Concerto Competition sponsored by Taipei City Symphony Orchestra, and is honored to perform Tchaikovsky’s violin concerto in D major, op. 35 with the orchestra.

In 1991, he is accepted by Peabody Conservatory of Music to study master of performance under Shirley Givens. After obtaining master degree, he has successfully awarded with full scholarship from the University of Minnesota under professor Young-Nam Kim for doctoral degree. During his study, he has been selected “Young Artist of Music” by the National Kai Shek Cultural Center, ROC, and has in several times receives invitation from the Chamber Music Society of Minnesota to perform chamber music. Lee has also received full-scholarship provided by The Festival at Sandpoint-Schweitzer Institute of Music to act as special performing artist, and take part in the release of new composition of chamber music; furthermore, he once represented Minnesota to take part in the master class under Pinchas Zuckerman. In February of 1996, he obtains doctoral degree with 2 years three months’ time, and is hired to work in the Department of Music of National Kaohsiung Normal University, once acting as chairperson of the department from February, 2003 to July, 2005. Since August of 2005, he is as transferred to specialize as instructor for violin professor in the Department of Western Music of the Chinese Culture University.

Lee’s techniques of performance are splendid, and music he renders is full of vitality and passion. He has a very tight schedule of performance after returning to Taiwan, as many as 22 recitals have been held, and he has also worked with Symphony Orchestra of National Kaohsiung Normal University at the Novel Hall performing Saint-Saens’ “Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso” as well as Brahmas’ violin concerto in D major at the National Chiang Kai Shek Cultural Center on 16th of March, 2006, ROC, violin concerto No. 3 by Saint-Saens with the symphony orchestra of Soochow University, Chausson’s Poem at Chung Shan Hall with symphony orchestra of Tung Hai University on 8th of January of 2004, duo concerto for violin and cello by Brahmas and also the Violin Concerto in D major op.35 by Tchaikovsky with the symphony orchestra of Chinese Cultural University at the concert hall of National Chiang Kai Shek Cultural Center, ROC of 2005 and 2007, and several other performances and work release on modern music.

In May 1997, Juin-Ying Lee, Jen-Ling Huang, the pianist, and Chu-Chuan Liu, cellist, set up Pro Arte Trio, and have held regular concerts for piano trio. As many as 60 concerts have been held, and the group is now celebrating its 10th anniversary. During the concert, one can evidently observe and beware the sense of appreciation and cooperation among the trio, and the extent of such cooperation is awarded with tremendous recognition and applauses. Pro Arte Trio has been awarded the opportunity to perform in the master class of Yo-Yo Ma at the Concert Hall of the National Chiang Kai Shek Cultural Center, ROC, and is honored with the first prize by the Residence Art Salon for chamber music. Furthermore, the trio is invited by the Symphony Orchestra of Kaohsiung City to perform Beethoven’s Triple Concerto at Chi Te Hall of Chiang Kai Shek Cultural Center of Kaohsiung City.

The Spokesman Review: "….An admirable playing." and also "..... captured the frolicsome spirit of Dvorak's peasant dances and his open-hearted lyricism..." Mr. Gunther Schuller (remarked as the composer from America’s International Performance Annual in 1995), the most note conductor and composer from the United States today, comments Lee as the “most gifted violinist.” Lee’s name and brief biography was collected by 2011 Edition - Marquis Who’s Who in the World edition 28th which was published on November, 2009.
