Playing under the moonlight in Berlin - new sounds after the transformation of the tradition

Organized by the Ostasien-Institut e. V.  in Germany, the cross-cultural concert Tradition und Transformation brings together the renowned Berlin-based Sonar Quartett and the award-winning Taiwanese ensemble 3Peoplemusic. Conducted by Yuän Chang, a prominent Taiwanese conductor based in Germany, the concert will take place on October 15 at 20:00 at Kühlhaus Berlin. The program features Playing under the Moonlight (《月嬉》), a masterpiece by renowned composer and NYCU Associate Professor Tung Chao-Ming, which won the Golden Melody Awards for Traditional Arts and Music in 2025. Performed in a septet formation, the piece showcases a profound dialogue between traditional Taiwanese instruments (guzheng, ruan, and dizi/xiao) and Western avant-garde string quartet culture, illuminating the diverse facets of Taiwan's rich musical landscape.
