"A Mirror of Sound" — 2026 Sounding Festival: Faculty and Student Exhibition
(Music Creation and Technology / Contemporary Music and Multimedia)
"A Mirror of Sound" is a joint faculty-student exhibition presented by the Music Creation and Technology / Contemporary Music and Multimedia program at the Institute of Music, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU). Guided by faculty members Chao-Ming Tung and Fang-Wei Luo, the exhibition also features guest artist Professor Jacob Sudol.
Sound serves as a medium that reflects creators' inner emotions and project thoughts—yet, when filtered through the audience's own perspective, can it be reinterpreted to reveal even richer, more vivid dimensions? centered on the core concept of "A Mirror of Sound," this year's show uses sound as a mirror and light as a canvas. Leveraging C-LAB's 49-channel spatial audio system, the performance integrates acoustic instruments, live interactive electroacoustics, electronic music, visuals, and lighting to present a diverse array of sonic landscapes and fantastical imagery.
Exploring themes from mirroring, self-awareness, time, and memory to the intersections of algorithms, technology, and perception, each piece utilizes distinct creative media and angles to reflect the artists' reflections on contemporary life and their inner worlds. As sound continuously shifts between physical and virtual, acoustic and electronic, reality and reflection, listeners are invited to engage their own senses to observe, listen, and reinterpret the "world within the mirror."
