Congratulations! Mu-Hsi CHEN's work "Collision", a graduate student majoring in electronic technology and music, was selected for NYCEMF 2025 New York Electronic Music Festival. (Instructor: Professor Yu-Chung TSENG).
"Collision" is a two-channel electronic music composition that expresses the various collisions and confrontations in life through an array of sound elements. Objects vibrate when they collide, producing sounds with pitch, energy, and timbral characteristics. These combinations of collisions are organized into music, much like life itself is composed of a series of collisions: without collisions, no beautiful sounds can be produced.
The piece begins with intensity, symbolizing the challenges life presents from the moment of birth. The strong rhythms and sound effects represent the difficulties and adversities of life, while the changes and transitions in the music signify the process of confrontation. The recurring and repetitive sections of the music echo the repeated challenges in life, with each collision representing growth and refinement. Ultimately, the piece concludes with pure frequencies, symbolizing a return to an innocent and pure state.
