Messiaen's monumental work for solo piao, Vingt Regards sur l’Enfant-Jésus, was composed in 1944 and had its premiere 80 years ago. Often regarded as a pinnacle of 20th-century piano literature, it is known for its rich musical language, profound religious connotations, and original explorations of time,
harmony, and colour. It represents Messiaen's multiple identities as a composer, believer and philosopher. This forum will explore Messiaen's compositional techniques as well as related performance practice issues.
Pianist Chia-Ying Julia Hsu's recent performances include "Crossing over. Beethoven" at the National Recital Hall in Taipei from 2019 to 2023, a series of nine recitals, with Beethoven's 32 Piano Sonatas and selected modern works.
