Altered States of.. conveys the composer’s attempt to break away from the styles of the past. The work is about 6-minute long. With a very strong beginning and transition, this work is mainly divided into two sections. There are many strong cutting points throughout. Different sections and materials develop after each cutting point, which serves as the transition between each section. It is also a way to break the calm dominated by long notes.
Featuring sounds, this work is produced by sampling electronic noises and sound materials from the environment. These electronic noises are combined with actual sounds, which are rubbed against each other, through which they “create” each other. At the same time, the composer draws on the collected electro-acoustic materials are processed in real time (Max / MSP), and the electro-acoustic Max / MSP is pre-set, making use of effects such as Delay and Reverb to change the timbre. This contributes to the work a stronger sense of technology; it also adds multiple layers and contrast to the listeners’ auditory experience.
