Fantasy Journey of Time focuses on an exploration of time. As a musical piece in the realm of temporal art, this work presents the composer’s attempt to take the audience on a fantastical journey through the flow of time. The major characteristics of the work include: 1. moment form in structure, 2. virtuosic performance techniques, and 3. free rhythm with flexible timing.
The most significant creative concept of Fantasy Journey of Time is to make use of contemporary electronic music technology to extend and expand on the inherent timbre and performance idioms of the flute. During the time evolution of the entire work, elements such as the original flute and the processed or AI-generated flute sound, the flutist’s performance and virtual computer performance, as well as the real performance space and the virtual four-channel space continue to engage in real and abstract dialogue, bringing the audience a journey of imaginary beauty that alternates between reality and virtuality.
Fantasy Journey of Time was completed in August 2024 and will be premiered on October 26 by flutist Professor Lin Yi-Hui, during the 25th Anniversary Concert at the National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University.
