|內容綱要:
相較於今日劇場中安靜且遵守秩序的觀演習慣,喬治時期的劇場文化截然不同。當時不同社會階層的觀眾都會積極參與演出,以掌聲、叫喊、投擲物品,甚至暴動等方式表達對演出的支持或不滿。
本次講座將聚焦於 1809 年倫敦 Covent Garden 劇院的「Old Price」暴動。當時票價上漲引發長達數月的觀眾抗議,使英國重要劇院成為一場喧鬧、鮮明且極具創造力的公共抗爭。這些事件亦透過大量生動的視覺諷刺漫畫被記錄與傳播。講座將進一步探討這些視覺諷刺作品如何影響公共輿論,以及它們在確保一般民眾不被排除於喬治時期劇場之外所扮演的重要角色。
|講者簡介:
Ian Haywood 為英國 University of Roehampton 英文系榮譽教授(Emeritus Professor of English),長期研究十八、十九世紀英國文學與視覺文化。著作包括 The Revolution in Popular Literature (2004)、Bloody Romanticism (2006)、Romanticism and Caricature (2013)、Spain in British Romanticism (2018)、Romanticism and Illustration (2019)、The Rise of Victorian Caricature (2020),以及 Queen Caroline and the Power of Caricature in Georgian England (2023)。其下一本著作 Frankenstein and Romantic Visual Culture 預計於 2027 年由 Bloomsbury 出版。他亦曾於 2015–2019 年擔任 British Association for Romantic Studies 主席,目前負責協調 Romantic Illustration Network。
